Development of an Integrated In-Vehicle Driver Breath Ethanol System Based on α-Fe2O3 Sensing Material

Alcohol abuse is the dominant cause of fatal car accidents (about 25% all road deaths in Europe). The large-scale implementation systems aimed at realization in-vehicle driver breath ethanol detection therefore high demand. For this reason, we devoted our attention to design an inexpensive and reliable alcohol sensor for use Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). main challenge development related complexity composition its humidity content, coupled with dilution reaching sensor. In work, a simple α-Fe2O3 film-based was developed validated laboratory tests. Tests were also performed by placing within casing upper steering column simulate real driving conditions. Using array provided humidity, temperature CO2 sensors, it possible differentiate signal driver’s before after consumption.
